Owens Cross Roads

Owens Cross Roads is a small city in Madison County, Alabama, with a population of 2,594 as of the 2020 census. Settled in the early 1800s by pioneers—most notably Thomas J. Owens, who built his home at a key crossroads—the town grew around a post office, general store, and blacksmith shop. It appeared on maps by 1850 and was officially incorporated in 1967. Historically rooted in cotton farming, the town evolved over time, adding schools, businesses, and civic services. Located in a scenic valley carved by the Flint River and surrounded by mountains, it sits along U.S. Route 431, connecting it to Huntsville and Guntersville. Owens Cross Roads became an official city in 2020 after its population surpassed 2,000.
